Running Hours & Condition Readings

Log running hours per unit or as a rounds sheet, with plausibility checks, due-date forecasting and an auditable history.

Usage-based maintenance only works if running hours are logged reliably. In E-PMS, every counter reading updates the equipment's current hours, re-forecasts the due dates of its running-hours jobs and feeds a usage trend. The office sees the same data read-only, because recording is done on board.

Single Readings and Rounds

Pick a unit in the equipment tree and log its hours with a timestamp and remarks, or use the rounds sheet: every metered unit grouped by system, one shared reading time, type the hours down the sheet and save the whole round at once. Sub-components without a meter of their own inherit their nearest metered parent.

Plausibility Built In

A counter only counts up and cannot outrun the clock. E-PMS refuses a reading that is lower than the last one, or higher than the hours that could have elapsed since it, and checks back-dated entries against both neighbours. When a meter is physically replaced at overhaul, the crew mark a counter reset with a note and forecasting restarts from the new baseline.

Forecasts and Trends

Once enough readings exist, every open running-hours job gets a predicted due date, and a job whose threshold is reached flips to overdue immediately. The trend chart plots every kept reading with who recorded it and when; counter resets are marked distinctly.

Corrections That Leave a Trail

Crew can correct their own recent entries within a short window, both changes logged. The Master can redact any reading with a required reason: the value stays visible but struck through and is excluded from the current value and the forecasts. It is an auditable correction, never a silent delete.

Condition Readings

Temperatures, pressures, clearances and other condition parameters are defined per maintenance job with units and optional limits, and captured before and after the work when a work order is completed. Out-of-limit values are recordable, turn amber and require a note, but never block completion. The dashboard plots them per equipment against the limit lines.

How often should running hours be logged?
Per watch or daily. The fewer the gaps, the sharper the due-date forecasts for running-hours jobs.
What if someone types a wrong reading?
Implausible values are refused on entry. A wrong but plausible value can be corrected by its author for a short window or redacted by the Master with a reason, and both actions are kept in the audit trail.
What happens when a counter is replaced?
The crew tick counter replaced, enter the new meter's first value with a note, and forecasting restarts from that baseline. Reset readings are badged in the history and on the trend chart.
Are condition readings logged in the same place?
No. Condition parameters belong to maintenance jobs and are captured during work-order completion, before and after the work, so that the effect of each service is visible on the trend.
